Bent, who played alongside the Rangers manager Steven Gerrard at international level, recently declared his interest in a move to Ibrox.

Just weeks after he declared his interest in a move to Rangers, Darren Bent has told Talksport that, given the choice, he would probably favour the Ibrox side’s rivals, Celtic.
Bent, who played alongside the Rangers manager Steven Gerrard for England, has been without a club since the end of last season.
Asked in September if he would sign for his former teammate at Ibrox, the striker told the same radio station: “You’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in football in Rangers.
“To get the opportunity to go up there and play – definitely!”
But after Dean Ashton, another former England striker, was pushed to reveal an albeit slight preference for Rangers on Thursday, Bent performed a U-turn on his previous comment.

“Being a striker and me liking Henrik Larsson, probably it would have been Celtic (that he would have liked to play for the most),” he said, before quipping: “Sorry Jim (White)!,” in reference to Talksport presenter’s alleged Rangers allegiance.
Bent, who cost Aston Villa around £18 million at the peak of his career, has scored more than 200 goals at club level.
Though only six months younger than the 34-year-old, Ashton was forced to retire from professional football nine years ago.
Could Bent do a job for either Rangers or Celtic?
