The former Villa striker believes the club will be fine in the Championship this season.
Derby’s Darren Bent scores their first goal
Aston Villa may have made plenty of moves in the transfer window but the club have struggled to adapt to life in the Championship.
The club have won just once in the Championship and are currently 16th in the table under Roberto Di Matteo.
One of their fixtures was against Derby County where they faced off with former striker Darren Bent.
The 32-year-old featured in the game, which ended 0-0.
Derby County’s Darren Bent looks dejected after missing an opportunity to score
He was on Sky Sports News HQ this morning (07/09/16) and discussed the chances of Villa this season after their disappointing start:
“Maybe just a transition period. Getting relegated from the Premier League down to the Championship is never easy.
“We played against them last weekend and they played pretty well. They were probably the better team.
“People think when you are relegated to the Premier League that the next season it is easy to come straight back up but it doesn’t work like that.
“They’ve still managed to hold on to some of their good players so they may have got off to a slow start, but they’ll be fine in the end.”
Derby County’s Darren Bent has an attempt on goal
Certainly no ill feeling from Bent towards Villa then.
He played at Villa for four seasons, but spent time out on loan at the likes of Fulham, Brighton and eventually turned such a stay at Derby into a permanent one in 2015.
He originally joined Villa for big money from Sunderland but never truly got going at Villa Park and was eventually frozen out by Paul Lambert.
Fans at Aston Villa will now be hoping the recruitment of players such as Albert Adomah and Jonathan Kodjia can help push them back up the Championship table.
