The summer transfer window isn’t going the way Newcastle United would have wanted.

You could argue that since the Saudi-led ownership entered the building and then brought in Eddie Howe, the club hasn’t been able to flex its financial muscle as they would have liked.

Some have called the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and Financial Fair Play rules (FFP) ‘anti-competitive’ because they only suit certain teams.

No Upcoming Fixtures

That was proven when Howe earned Champions League football last term and then had to sell winger Allan Saint-Maximin just for Newcastle to secure the transfer of Harvey Barnes.

Fast forward to the present and the Magpies have had to sell Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest before July and Brighton agreed a club-record deal with Newcastle for Yankuba Minteh.

The Toon Army faithful would have been hoping this is it and they are now able to free their arms and bring in who they like.

But many have seen the transfer links between Liverpool and Anthony Gordon – he is currently at Euro 2024 with England ahead of their semi-final clash against the Netherlands.

And now Bent has reacted to the suggestion that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are looking to bring Gordon on board.

Manchester City won a historic fourth Premier League title in a row last season and they are simply unstoppable under their trophy-crazy manager.

Bent stated that it must be ’incredibly difficult’ for Newcastle to be in such a situation where they might now lose Gordon, especially if the champions push for him, as he told talkSPORT (08/07/24 at 6:20 pm).

“No,” responded Bent on if he is surprised by Gordon and Man City links. “Pep has looked at him and you know what Pep is like.

“It must be incredibly difficult, and even though Newcastle is a big club, when a side like Manchester City comes calling and a coach like Pep. You know what Pep can turn you into, so it doesn’t surprise me.

“If Pep sees something in Anthony Gordon that he likes, then it’s going to be incredibly difficult if they really do pursue that and for them to keep him.”

Anthony Gordon at Euro 2024

There has been a lot of transfer noise around Gordon and you wouldn’t be surprised if the Toon Army faithful are a little anxious about his situation.

But you feel fans won’t get a clear message until the distraction of Euro 2024 is over.

Gary Neville dropped the truth about Gordon at Euro 2024 with England, as he has only made one substitute appearance and is yet to start a game.

But Gareth Southgate will point to the fact that England are in the last four, even if the performances have been uninspiring and the team is scrapping through.
