Darren Bent has told The Weekend Wrap that you have to take Tottenham “seriously” when asked if his old club are in the race to win the Premier League title this season – with Spurs sitting level on points with Manchester City so far.

Tottenham secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday evening at North London. Harry Kane continues his fantastic form in the Premier League, scoring his ninth goals in 10 League games – with 10 goals in all competitions.

With Manchester City losing to Liverpool, City sit in second and level on points with Conte’s Tottenham. Both clubs are four behind Arsenal, who secured a ninth win in 10 games – a 1-0 away win over Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.

Bent was asked if he sees his old club as title rivals alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, and the Arsenal-supporting pundit says you have to take Spurs seriously. He thinks that the presence of Conte means Spurs are a contender.

“You’ve got to take them seriously. They’ve got a manager that has won the Premier League before, and wins trophies wherever he has been. When you’ve got Son and Kane, you don’t even have to play well when they’re firing.”

Bent: You have to take Tottenham seriously in Premier League title race

Without a doubt. Spurs are picking up wins, consistently earning points, despite being far from their best. If Spurs can keep Harry Kane and Son Heung-min fit, then there is no doubt that they could be title contenders come next May.

But whether Spurs have the quality in other areas of the pitch to match City and Arsenal is unclear. City are so strong in midfield and defence with Pep Guardiola in position. Arsenal are playing some delightful football, full of goals and flair.

However, if you would have asked Conte if his side would be level on points after 10 league games – he would have bitten your hand off. Of the three, Tottenham are least likely – but they have a real chance of maintaining a title push.
