Darren Bent has stated that Tottenham fans should be ‘worried’ after manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted that he was unsure whether Christian Eriksen will sign a new deal at the club.

Prior to Spurs’ FA Cup clash against Tranmere on Friday night, Pochettino told Sky Sports that it’s Eriksen’s ‘right to do what he wants to do’ when talking about his future.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who has provided four assists in his previous five Premier League matches, has 18-months left on his current deal.

Former Aston Villa striker Bent offered his thoughts on Eriksen’s contract situation as he made a massive claim about what the playmaker is thinking.

“If I was a Tottenham fan, I’d be a little worried,” Bent told Sky Sports News on 04/01/2019. “Arguably their season has been unbelievable, one of their best players [Eriksen]. And for them to lose a calibre player like that, it’s going to be hard to replace him for starters.

“I think he is playing as well now as he has ever played. He’s probably thinking at the back of his mind ‘there is a chance to go to the big, big boys, Barcelona or Real Madrid’. Maybe someone is playing a part in that.”

Over the course of this season, Eriksen has played 25 matches in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing nine assists for his teammates.

The Denmark international will be hoping to win his first trophy with the north London club as they have four chances of lifting silverware.

Pochettino’s side are six points behind Liverpool in the Premier League, will play in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday, host Chelsea in the first leg of the EFL Cup next Tuesday as well as still being in the Champions League.

Tottenham supporters will see the League Cup as their most realistic chance of winning a trophy because of how deep they are in the competition.
