Darren Bent has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will break England’s all-time goalscoring record ‘quite comfortably’.

On Saturday, Kane netted a hat-trick for his country during their 4-0 win over Bulgaria as he took his international tally to 25 goals – surpassing 1966 World Cup winner Geoff Hurst.

Wayne Rooney currently holds England’s all-time record of 53 goals – he broke Bobby Charlton’s near 50-year record in 2015, but there could be a possibility that it won’t take as much time to break the record again.

Speaking to GameDay Verdict on TalkSport (07/09/2019 at 7:20 pm), Bent lauded England’s forward line as he backed Kane to break Rooney’s record.

“I’d love to see the odds on him breaking the all-time England goalscoring record,” Bent told TalkSport. “I think he could do it quite comfortably. Everytime he steps on the international pitch, he always scores. He always has something to do with a big moment in a game.

“At this moment, this England team, this young English team that going forward, they are unstoppable. They have so many players. The forwards they have. Kane, Rashford, Sancho, Sterling and then there’s Callum Wilson. Then you even have someone like Tammy Abraham coming in from behind.”

Kane, 26, has plenty of time to reach that target, and with his best football yet to come, it seems as though only injury will stop him from surpassing the 53 goal mark.

But, at this moment in time, that record won’t be on Kane’s mind because he will be looking to help England reach the 2020 European Championships and then making his mark on the tournament.

Given Kane’s goalscoring talents and the form he has shown in recent years, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is England’s and the Premier League’s top goalscorer by the time his career finishes.
