Darren Bent has led the congratulations to former Derby County team-mate Will Hughes following his move to the Premier League.

Watford announced that they had signed the 22-year-old in a deal which could keep him with the London outfit until 2022.

The England Under-21 international had been one of Derby’s best players since breaking into the first team back in 2012 and the team will undoubedly miss him.

But it would appear as if Hughes’s absence will also be felt off the pitch as a number of his former team-mates at Pride Park offered their congratulations within half-an-hour of the switch being finalised.

Bent, in particular, offered a longer message than the others in which he urged the youngster to prove that he is destined for the top in the Premier League.

Hughes had been on the Rams’ books since a 16-year-old in 2011, and his first goal ironically came against the Hornets in a Championship match a year later.

According to BBC Sport, County will receive around £8 million from his sale as manager Gary Rowett hunts an adequate replacement.
