Portsmouth are attempting to catch Luton Town and Barnsley in the League One automatic promotion spots.

Pompey sit third, and last night were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Bristol Rovers.

Brett Pitman was not selected for the match, and former Portsmouth midfielder Darren Anderton has demanded to know what is up with his recent omissions.

Anderton, who began his career at Portsmouth in the early 90s before going on to play for England, voiced his bemusement on Twitter.

He hailed Pitman as Portsmouth’s best striker, asking why he had been left out.

Pitman has only scored five times for Portsmouth this season, but in substantially less game time than top scorer Jamal Lowe.

Pitman averages a goal ever 171 minutes of action, with Lowe’s 11 goals coming at an excess of 280 minutes per strike, BBC Sport report.

The 31-year-old’s last appearance for Pompey was on January 29, a 2-1 defeat to Luton Town. He has now missed four consecutive games since.
