The Barnsley manager is not currently among the favourites to succeed Frank Lampard at Derby County.
The Peterborough United owner, Darragh MacAnthony, has recommended the Barnsley manager, Daniel Stendel, to Derby County – albeit indirectly.
Derby are expected to lose Frank Lampard to Chelsea following Maurizio Sarri’s departure as boss, and Garry Monk is the early favourite to replace him after leaving Birmingham City.
But when asked to whom the Rams should turn if Lampard goes, MacAnthony suggested a name not among the rumoured front-runners.
“Barnsley manager,” replied the Peterborough chief, adding the ‘Eyes’ emoji to the intrigue of some of his followers.
Stendel led Barnsley to promotion back to the Championship in his first season, not only at Oakwell, but English football in general, playing a fast-paced brand of attacking football.
Unlike with Monk, though, Derby would have to pay to engineer the German’s release.
Although that may not be an issue for the Rams, who are likely to receive several millions of pounds for Lampard.
