Sunderland take on Charlton Athletic in the League One playoff final today.
Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has admitted that he wants Sunderland to beat Charlton Athletic today – but mostly because of a clause in Jack Baldwin’s deal.
The Black Cats head to Wembley this afternoon to take on Charlton Athletic, with a place in the Championship up for grabs for the former Premier League duo.
Fans will remember the dramatic First Division playoff final between the two teams back in 1998, but they’ll be hoping for a less stressful game today.
Sunderland edged past Portsmouth with a 1-0 aggregate win, whereas Charlton had to beat Doncaster Rovers on penalties after a 4-4 draw on aggregate.
Both teams will have huge followings today, and one fan has taken to Twitter to wonder just who Peterborough owner MacAnthony is rooting for today.
MacAnthony’s Posh missed out on the playoffs, and has now admitted that he’s looking for Sunderland to go up, but mostly because of their deal involving Jack Baldwin.
Peterborough sold the centre back to Sunderland last summer for £200,000 (The Northern Echo), but MacAnthony has revealed that a clause in the deal means that if Sunderland go up, then Peterborough will earn an extra £50,000.
