Sunderland won’t be signing Marcus Maddison today.

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to suggest that Marcus Maddison won’t be leaving the club today or even in January amid links to Sunderland.
The Posh hammered Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-0 win over the Black Cats, who ended up with nine men after a dismal showing.
Sunderland have responded by securing a deadline day deal for Leeds United left back Laurens de Bock, and Black Cats fans have been hoping one Peterborough star would follow.
Playmaker Maddison scored twice in that 3-0 win, meaning he’s racked up three goals and five assists from six League One games already this season.
Just by the numbers, Maddison is a phenomenon. 10 goals and 23 assists last season, 12 goals and 23 assists in the 2017-18 campaign, nine goals and 18 assists in the 2016-17 season; he’s an absolute machine.
Any Football League club would love to have a talent like Maddison, and as a boyhood Sunderland fan who has made various social media references about the club, many want to see him make the move to Wearside.

The Chronicle claimed earlier today that Maddison is ‘desperate’ to join Sunderland, and fans may have been hoping for a deal today, as moves can still be announced even though the 5pm deadline has passed.
However, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to assure fans that Maddison won’t be leaving today, and wouldn’t even sell him in January, instead letting him run down his contract rather than sell him to Sunderland.
