Sheffield Wednesday winger George Boyd has played regularly since Steve Bruce took over at Hillsborough.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has suggested at a question and answer session, which was broadcast on his own personal Youtube channel, that Sheffield Wednesday winger George Boyd won’t be coming back to Posh next season.

Boyd’s contract at Wednesday is due to expire at the end of the campaign, and he is yet to be offered new terms.

Steve Bruce has always been a big fan of Boyd, and he has played regularly for Wednesday since the veteran manager took charge at Hillsborough.

However, there is a feeling that big changes could occur at Wednesday over the summer.

And when asked whether Boyd could make a return to Posh, MacAnthony appeared to play down the possibility.

“No, we can’t have both of them [Boyd and Tomlin]. No disrespect to George but he’s 33 now, when you have players like Dembele and Maddison and that kind of talent, and Tomlin’s only 30, Boydie wouldn’t get in our team,” MacAnthony joked.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson quickly quipped ‘he would’ in response on the evening, but it would be a shock to see Boyd back at London Road any time soon.

Boyd is arguably the biggest legend in recent Posh history, and he still remains hugely popular at his former club.

If the left-winger does leave Wednesday it appears most likely that he will play in the Championship though, especially as he has enjoyed an excellent run of form of late.
