The former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper had looked set to complete a permanent move to Peterborough United after a successful loan spell.
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has made a statement in regard to his side’s failed pursuit of goalkeeper Luke McGee.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Posh and they clearly wanted to make him a permanent signing this summer. However, Tottenham Hotspur ultimately sold him to Portsmouth, leaving MacAnthony to outline exactly how things transpired.

Always refreshingly honest, MacAnthony wrote a succinct message on Facebook on Wednesday morning, explaining his side’s efforts and Tottenham’s responses prior to their surprise announcement.
Acknowledging the frustration felt by those Peterborough fans desperate to see McGee return, MacAnthony wrote, “We throughout May and June spoke with relevant parties at Spurs about our intentions and were constantly told he was at that moment third choice and until another goalkeeper was signed, there was no chance Spurs would have conversation over him moving.
“And if he did move, it would be August time when that would happen.”
As it was, McGee left Tottenham in early July, and given how clear Peterborough were in terms of their intentions, they are right to feel aggrieved.
MacAnthony also states that McGee wanted to return to the side where he enjoyed so much success on loan, but it was not to be.
Tottenham now only have two senior goalkeepers on their books in the form of Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm.
Rumours of a move for a younger third-choice option persist but given Vorm’s contract situation, one wonders why Tottenham did not keep McGee and promote him to second-choice behind the French international next season.
