Sunderland knocked Premier League side Burnley out of the Carabao Cup last night.

Sunderland are into the third round of the Carabao Cup after dumping Premier League side Burnley out of the competition last night.
The Black Cats headed to Turf Moor as major underdogs, taking on a team two divisions above them away from home; not exactly the recipe for optimism.
Burnley took the lead in the first half, as Jay Rodriguez pounced early on for his first competitive goal since rejoining his hometown club this summer.
However, Sunderland then hit back, equalising before the break through Will Grigg, and then scoring a quickfire double after half time through Tom Flanagan and George Dobson.
Sunderland held firm late on and went through with a 3-1 win, booking a spot in the third round and another Premier League trip, heading to take on Sheffield United.
With some promising League One displays coupled with that Carabao Cup success, Sunderland fans will have real optimism, just months after their playoff final defeat to Charlton Athletic in May.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony was asked about Sunderland after the game, and he suggested that the victory over Burnley summed up what a strong, all-round squad the Black Cats have.
The two sides are among the favourites for promotion from League One this season, and meet this weekend for a huge game, with MacAnthony highlighting the challenge that faces his side on Saturday afternoon.
