Peterborough United’s Darragh MacAnthony fancies Leeds United to win promotion this season.
Leeds United players applaud
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to admit that he fancies Leeds United to win the Championship play-offs this season.
The Whites were looking for Garry Monk to stabilise the club after a string of managerial mishaps under Massimo Cellino, but the former Swansea boss now has Leeds challenging for the Premier League.
Heading into the international break, Leeds had beaten Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at Elland Road to make it seven games unbeaten and four victories in that run.
Currently fourth in the Championship table with 69 points to their name, Leeds are eight points inside the top six and eight points off automatic promotion, meaning a play-off place is all but guaranteed.
Monk is set to guide Leeds into the Championship play-offs for the first time since they lost the 2006 final 3-0 to Watford, with real hopes that the Whites will finally return to the top flight after a 13-year exile.
With a strong defence led by Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley, a workmanlike midfield with Liam Bridcutt, Eunan O’Kane and Ronaldo Vieira, creativity from Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe as well as a top striker in Chris Wood, Leeds look to have everything needed to win promotion.

Now, with just eight games to go for Leeds, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has been asked for his thoughts on the club’s chances of returning to the Premier League.
MacAnthony admitted that he fancies Leeds to go all the way, as not only are they a strong team, but they have incredible fans that could see them over the line with huge support in both play-off semi-final legs and the resulting final at Wembley.
