Darragh MacAnthony insists some of the figures being bandied about for Jack Marriott are ‘miles away’ from the truth.
Marriott looks set to leave Peterborough United for Derby County, after the two clubs confirmed on Wednesday that a fee has been agreed for the striker’s transfer.
Marriott will now discuss personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of a move that will cost Derby an initial fee of either £2 million [the Daily Mail] or £3 million [Sky Sports] – each rising to around £5 million – depending on who you prefer to believe.
But MacAnthony, who has previously asserted that Marriott would not be leaving Peterborough for less than £5 million, has scoffed at some of the suggested fees.
Posting on Twitter earlier, the Posh chairman wrote:
Marriott, who scored 33 goals for League One Peterborough last season, is likely to become the sixth recognised senior striker on Derby’s books, after Matej Vydra, Cameron Jerome, David Nugent, Chris Martin and Nick Blackman.
But at least one or two of those are expected to depart before the close of the summer transfer window, as Derby attempt to remain Financial Fair Play compliant.
