Peterborough United co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has hinted that Aston Villa offered an £8 million double-deal for Jack Marriott and Marcus Maddison to them in January.
Villa could not afford to buy the pair at the start of the year, due to their struggles against Financial Fair Play.
However, if the claret and blues are promoted, they told Posh they would be willing to pay big for the duo.
MacAnthony has presumably rejected the potential offer, but Villa may well re-visit their interest in the attacking duo if they do make it to the Premier League.
Maddison is the top creator in League One, while Marriott leads the third division’s goalscoring charts.
Steve Bruce’s side are currently chasing both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City, as they battle for a top two spot in the Championship.
Villa are four points behind second placed Cardiff, but they are in strong form.
Bruce’s men smashed Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend as they strengthened their bid for promotion.
