Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to state that Leeds United target Ashley Fletcher certainly has some potential.
Having seen Mirco Antenucci leave the club on a free transfer, Leeds are in the market for at least one striker – and it appears that Fletcher is a top target.
The 20-year-old has come up through the ranks at Manchester United following his 2009 move from Bolton Wanderers, but has yet to make his first-team debut for the Red Devils.
Fletcher was sent out on loan to Barnsley in League One last season, and he played a huge part in firing the club to promotion to the Championship, as he scored nine goals in 27 games in all competitions.
Now, the Yorkshire Evening Post report that Fletcher – who is out of contract at Manchester United this summer – has rejected a new deal to stay at Old Trafford, and Leeds are pushing to bring him to Elland Road, as they are willing to match his wage demands and offer him first-team football.
With pace and power, Fletcher could add something different to the Leeds front line – and fans are keen to learn more about the youngster ahead of a possible move back to West Yorkshire, having been born in nearby Keighley.
One fan took to Twitter in order to ask Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony for his opinion on Fletcher having seen him in League One last season, and whether he would prove to be a good signing for Leeds.
MacAnthony responded by saying that Fletcher looked ‘ok’ during his loan spell in League One, but highlighted that he has plenty of potential to improve in the future.
