Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that Sunderland have called about Jack Baldwin.

The Chronicle have suggested that the Black Cats are confident that they can land the centre-back this summer.

And MacAnthony has confirmed that Sunderland have been in contact with Posh director of football, Barry Fry, over signing Baldwin.

Baldwin has been placed on the transfer list by Posh, despite being handed their captain’s armband last term.

Baldwin played frequently for Peterborough last season, but a string of error-prone displays towards the end of the campaign, led to Steve Evans making the centre-back available.

Sunderland are in need of additions this summer, as they plot an immediate return to the Championship, following back-to-back relegation.

Baldwin’s main strength lies in how comfortable he is in possession, and he could help tighten up the defence for Jack Ross’s side at the Stadium of Light.
