Rangers and Celtic are both likely to be in the market for a new striker this summer – and they could be targeting the same player.
The Gers will have to try and keep hold of Alfredo Morelos, who will certainly attract interest. Meanwhile, Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard will be wanted after 27 goals and 19 assists.
It would be wise for both clubs to look at potential replacements, just to ensure that they aren’t scrambling for a new striker – arguably the most difficult position to fill – if they lose their star hitman.
Earlier this month, Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry suggested that both Old Firm sides wanted to sign his goal machine Ivan Toney.
Fry told The Scottish Daily Mail (9 June, page 79) that both Celtic and Rangers are targeting Toney, but he has a £15million asking price on his head.
That would certainly be a huge price to pay for a third-tier striker. Still, Toney racked up 26 goals this season and now has 49 goals in 94 games during his time with the Posh.

With Peterborough missing out on promotion, clubs may think they can prise the 24-year-old away. New York Red Bulls were one such team, with The Peterborough Telegraph claiming a £4million bid from the MLS side has been rejected.
Now, Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to admit that there is interest in Toney and there have been bids.
He stopped short of naming which clubs are moving for the striker, but if Rangers and Celtic are really interested in signing him, then they will need to move quickly with the Red Bulls seemingly pushing hard.
