The Irishman has previously admitted an interest in the Newcastle United youngster.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has rubbished suggestions that he has tried to sign Newcastle United’s Freddie Woodman.

The 20-year-old is a rising star in English football and helped England’s Under-20 side to World Cup glory in South Korea this summer.

Earlier this month, MacAnthony said he was interested in signing the Newcastle goalkeeper, who has been linked with a loan move away.

But the Irishman rejected speculation that is readying a move for the youngster.

If any club does sign the youngster this summer, it won’t be on a permanent deal.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is reported by The Chronicle to have told Woodman that although he should move out on loan for the 2017-18 campaign, he is the future of the North-East club.

The Spaniard obviously rates him very highly and no club should expect to sign him for longer than a season.
