Derby County are said to have paid an initial £3 million, potentially rising to £5 million, for Marriott – a fee West Bromwich Albion apparently could not afford.

The Derby County striker, Jack Marriott, could have been a West Bromwich Albion player had the Baggies manager, Darren Moore, had his way.
That is according to the Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony, who sanctioned Marriott’s to Derby in the summer.
The 24-year-old scored in the Rams’ 3-2 defeat against Chelsea on Wednesday – his fifth goal since moving north – prompting one West Brom fan to ask:
And MacAnthony replied:
The Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle eventually moved on loan to West Brom, becoming one of several players to join the Baggies either on temporary or free transfers.
But despite a thrifty summer for the Black Country outfit, MacAnthony insisted they are in good hands going forward after his director of football, Barry Fry, met with the new West Brom technical director, Luke Dowling, on Wednesday.
