Newcastle United sold Ivan Toney to Peterborough United in August.
Few Newcastle United fans will remember anything of Ivan Toney’s time at the club, but he’s certainly turning heads in League One this season.
The striker was signed by Steve McClaren in the summer of 2015, having shown some promise with hometown club Northampton Town.
Toney played just four times for the Magpies though, and six loan spells away from the club, he was finally sold this past summer.
The 22-year-old was sold to Peterborough United for £650,000 in August, according to The Chronicle, a £400,000 profit for Newcastle.
So far, Toney has been in superb form for the Posh, scoring 12 goals in 28 games, including nine in his last eight games.
Toney hit a hat-trick in the 4-4 FA Cup draw at Bradford City last night, including a goal from around the halfway line as his stock continues to rise with Peterborough.
After the game, one fan took to Twitter to ask Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony whether Toney would be able to re-join Newcastle for a fee of £4.5million – and MacAnthony suggested that such a fee wouldn’t even come close to landing him.
