Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed to Peterborough United’s official Youtube that Aston Villa boss ‘absolutely loves’ Marcus Maddison.

The Posh chairman was speaking about Maddison’s future yesterday, with rumours flying that the attacking midfielder could be about to leave the ABAX Stadium.

Villa have been tipped as a potential destination for Maddison, and Bruce is said to be a keen admirer.

Maddison was recommended to Bruce by his son, Alex, in the summer, but Villa decided against making a move.

And they saw first-hand that this may have been an error, when the two sides met in the FA Cup this season.

Posh ran out 3-1 winners against Villa this term, with Maddison claiming two assists in the contest.

And MacAnthony said: “Steve Bruce absolutely loves him after the Villa game.

“His own son was in his office saying ‘that was the boy I told you about in the summer Dad.’ He was very impressed with Marcus, not only with what he did with the ball but his work ethic too.”

Villa are unlikely to be able to afford Maddison this month, as Posh want big money for their star man.

Villa are battling against Financial Fair Play, and Bruce is thought to be targeting loan players rather than permanent signings.
