West Bromwich Albion ace Darnell Furlong has named fellow defender Semi Ajayi as his favourite teammate at The Hawthorns, describing him as “calm and assured” and praising how well he brings the ball out (official WBA website).

Ajayi has been in inspired form for Slaven Bilic’s side since arriving at The Hawthorns from Rotherham United in the summer for a reported £1.3million fee (Daily Mail), and in a short space of time he has already become a Baggies fan favourite.

The 25-year-old has played every minute of every West Brom game this season – 13 in the Championship and one in the League Cup – and has scored twice, both goals coming in back-to-back league games against Fulham and Huddersfield Town.

When asked by the club’s media team who his favourite WBA players are, Furlong responded: “That’s a loaded question! But I will say Semi. I love playing alongside Semi. He’s my favourite player at the moment. He’s so calm and assured. He brings the ball out so well that I never need to worry about him.”

Furlong also name dropped Matheus Pereira and Matt Phillips, adding: “I know everyone is raving about Matheus and I understand why. He does some crazy stuff in training…he’s certainly a very bright footballer. And I’ve got a great understanding with Matty.”

Ajayi has also been capped seven times for the Nigeria national team and played the full 90 minutes in the recent games against Ukraine and Brazil (Transfermarkt).
