Portland Timbers ace Darlington Nagbe has commented on Celtic’s interest in him.

Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe has opened up on his failed move to Celtic, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

Celtic have been looking for midfield reinforcements, and recently tied up a deal for Krasnodar ace Kouassi Eboue, pending a work permit being granted for the Ivorian.

However, Celtic’s original target for the January transfer window was Portland Timbers ace Darlington Nagbe, and the Bhoys rolled out the red carpet for the American international.

Nagbe, 26, arrived in Glasgow in November and was not only given a tour of Celtic Park, but was also in the stands as Celtic took on Barcelona in the Champions League.

It looked like Celtic were ready to make a move for Nagbe, but in December, The Scottish Sun reported that the Bhoys had suddenly ended their interest in signing the diminutive midfielder, and would be looking elsewhere for a midfielder.

Now, Nagbe has commented on the situation, admitting that it was ‘amazing’ for Celtic to even show interest in him, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

Nagbe also revealed that he enjoyed watching Celtic’s clash with Barcelona, suggesting it was the best atmosphere he has ever experienced, adding to the plaudits for the fans at Celtic Park.

The midfielder did though admit that he isn’t sure that a deal will happen now, and is content with whatever happens, as he’s looking forward to playing for Portland Timbers again.

“It was amazing that Celtic showed interest in me,” said Nagbe. “They wanted me to come over for their game against Barcelona in the Champions League. I checked it out and enjoyed it – it was one of the best atmosphere I have ever experienced. It was great.”

“I’m not too sure that something will happen there now. I’m here at Timbers right now and if it doesn’t happen then I am looking forward to playing again for Portland. If it does happen with Celtic, then great. It is what it is,” he added.
