Leeds United youngster Alex Wollerton has joined the National League North side for a month.
Wollerton is one of several exciting youngsters looking to make the grade at Thorp Arch. He signed professional terms at Elland Road last summer, and is now set to be given the chance to make an impact elsewhere.
Darlington have confirmed that they have signed the 19-year-old for a month. It is not going to be easy, but Wollerton will be hoping to put in the kind of performances that catch his parent club’s eye.
One of the sides that Wollerton may well come up against is York City, with two fixtures against the Minstermen ahead in the next month. And it was at York where current Leeds first-team star Bailey Peacock-Farrell spent a month last season.
Peacock-Farrell’s spell should give Wollerton confidence. The goalkeeper endured a largely disappointing spell at Bootham Crescent but is now a key member of the senior side.
Wollerton’s path to the first-team contains so many more obstacles – Peacock-Farrell unquestionably benefited from Leeds’ remarkable goalkeeping woes last season – but he can take some belief from his teammate’s progress following a loan to the sixth tier.
