Former Leeds United head coach Darko Milanic’s NK Maribor lost against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Darko Milanic’s tenure at Leeds United was short and bad. The 49-year-old former defender was appointed the Championship club’s head coach in September 2014.
Milanic was handed a two-year contract at Leeds, as reported by BBC Sport, but he could last just 32 days at Elland Road.
During his time at the Whites, the former Slovenia international failed to win any of his six games in charge, leaving Leeds 18th in the Championship table when he parted complany.
Milanic, though, has done quite well since then. The former Sturm Graz boss returned to his former club NK Maribor in March 2016 and guided the them to the league title in Slovenia.
The 49-year-old then led Maribor to the Champions League group stage after negotiating the qualifying rounds.
Maribor were in Champions League action on Tuesday evening, as they took on Liverpool at home in Group E.
Not many will have expected the home team to win, and in the end it was very easy for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool hammered Maribor 7-0 to enhance their chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.
It was biggest away win by an English team in the history of the European Cup, eclipsing the 6-0 away victories by Leeds over Lyn in 1969 and Manchester United against Shamrock Rovers in 1957, according to BBC Sport.
