Dapo Mebude has taken to Twitter to express his delight at signing a new contract at Rangers, while a large number of the Ibrox faithful have responded to congratulate the exciting youngster.

The Gers have confirmed on their official website that the 17-year-old has become the latest academy prospect to pen fresh terms with the Scottish Premiership, with his new deal set to run until 2021.

Mebude is arguably one of the most talented prospects coming through amongst an academy side that continue to catch the eye under Graeme Murty. The youngsters produced a stunning comeback to win 4-2 against Rapid Vienna on Thursday.

It appears to be a matter of time before Steven Gerrard is considering Mebude for a chance in the first-team. He is surely already on the radar having joined the first-team in training, and it would not surprise many Rangers supporters if his opportunity was just around the corner.

And that senior debut appears to have moved one step closer now that his future is resolved. Rangers may have been wary about using him before he signed a contract as he may well have put himself in the shop window.

Mebude’s tweet following the announcement suggests that the process may not have been plain-sailing, but he is delighted to have committed his future to Rangers.
