Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has told The Lockdown Tactics podcast that he took an interest in Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney once Brendan Rodgers had praised him.

Tierney emerged through the Celtic ranks, and made his senior debut under Ronny Deila in 2015. Yet it was under Rodgers that he became a star.

The left back played a key part in two successive domestic trebles for Celtic, all whilst becoming a regular for Scotland on the international stage.

After 170 appearances for his boyhood club, Tierney decided to move on. Arsenal tempted Celtic into selling last summer, and the 22-year-old made his move to North London.

However, Tierney’s season can be best described as frustrating. He joined Arsenal with an injury, then made just 11 appearances before suffering a dislocated shoulder against West Ham United in December.

Tierney hasn’t played since, but maybe the season being suspended will now give Tierney time to get fit and firing for when the Premier League comes back.

Now, Tierney has received some praise from across North London… in a way. Tottenham defender Rose is currently on loan at Newcastle United, and has now praised Tierney.

Rose – as transcribed by the Glasgow Evening Times – stated that he started paying attention to Tierney at Celtic once Brendan Rodgers had billed him as ‘one of the best in Europe’, and feels ‘very sorry’ for the Arsenal man due to his injury issues this season.

“I tried to watch the Celtic games on the Champions League when they were on the television. Brendan Rodgers said at that time that Kieran was one of best in Europe,” said Rose. “As soon as Brendan said that then I took an interest In him.”

“I feel very sorry for him this season as he’s had a bit of bad luck with injury. I do rate the two of them very highly but Robertson is the best,” he added.
