If Danny Welbeck wants to leave Arsenal, he wouldn’t be short of options – Bayern Munich and Everton are reported to be interested.
Danny Welbeck enjoyed arguably his most impressive start to a Premier League season with Arsenal in 2017/18. However, once it became clear that Alexis Sanchez would not be going anywhere and Alexandre Lacazette got up to speed, it seemed only a matter of time before the English international would be warming the bench once more.
The 26-year-old has struggled with niggling injuries again but it’s fair to say that, when all of Arsenal’s attackers are fit and available, he is far from an undisputed first-choice option.
With the World Cup on the horizon, then, Welbeck should perhaps give some thought to his future at the Emirates before the January transfer window.
The prospect of swapping Arsenal for Bayern Munich, however, would hardly provide Welbeck with the guaranteed first-team football he needs – no matter how tempting the prospect of racking up the titles at one of Europe’s real elite clubs may be.
The Sun claim that Bayern want to sign Sanchez in the New Year but would settle for Welbeck, a powerful, athletic and versatile attacker who could add some much needed depth to a Bayern attack somewhat over reliant on the enduring brilliance of Robert Lewandowski.
But Welbeck would move to Germany knowing he is set for a back-up role – he isn’t even Bayern’s first choice target, after all.
If Everton come calling again, then, perhaps the former Manchester United youngster should choose a club in the Premier League relegation zone over a team with ambitions of winning the Champions League.
The Mirror report that Everton were keen on a £30 million deal for Welbeck who, for all his rough edges, would be an astute replacement for the badly-missed Romelu Lukaku.
At Everton, Welbeck could be the main man, a starter and a star. At Bayern, he would be one of the supporting cast. Decision time.
