Arsenal attacker Danny Welbeck proved his worth in the win over Newcastle.

Danny Welbeck’s tireless work rate played a role in the 2-1 win, with one fact particularly notable.

The striker made six interceptions during the match at St James Park, twice as many as his previous highest figure for Arsenal in the Premier League this season.

Welbeck has been shunted out of the main striker’s role for Olivier Giroud, with the Frenchman performing superbly barring the ill-fated home fixture against Monaco.

The England international is having to make do with the leftovers, which must be frustrating for him with international place rival Harry Kane scoring relentless for Tottenham.

The ex-Manchester United ace is however the model professional, and simply gets on with the task he is asked to perform by Arsene Wenger.

While he too had disappointing performances in the role out wide against Spurs and Monaco, Welbeck’s display against Newcastle was important in helping the side grind out a vital away win to stay a point ahead of his former club, and is evidence he is getting to grips well with the specifics of what his boss wants from him in the position.
