The right-back, though, has reminded the Newcastle fans that since he left St. James’ Park in 2013, he has won the Premier League title with Leicester.

Simpson told The Shields Gazette: “I left the club and went and won the league (with Leicester), so I understand.

“I left that club when I turned down a contract and left on a free. It turned out OK for me, but I understand it from their point of view.”
