Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks picked up an injury last season, which spoiled his chances of going to the World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has told the London Evening Standard that he wishes Harry Winks was at the World Cup.

Rose was part of the England squad that made it to the semi-finals in Russia.

Rose show both England’s strengths and weaknesses while he was away with the national team.

And while he would not criticise any member of the England squad, he felt that his Tottenham teammate could have offered a different option to the rest of the team.

“It would be harsh to say that we missed a player like Harry, given how well the midfield did,” Rose said. “Dele [Alli], Jordan Henderson, Jesse [Lingard] were brilliant, but if we had been able to have somebody like Harry at the World Cup it would have only helped us.”

Winks is starting to come back into the fold at Tottenham, where he has started games again this term.

Rose has also been given plenty of game time this season, with Mauricio Pochettino re-introducing the full-back to his side’s starting line-up.

However, Rose’s future at Tottenham still appears to be very unsure.

Rose has previously been linked with a £50 million away from Spurs (Daily Mail), and it is still not entirely clear where his long term future lies.
