Danny Rose admits he is now expecting to stay at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham left back Danny Rose has told The Independent that he thinks he will now be staying at the club after two meetings with boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs turned in a superb performance on Monday night as they defeated Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, with Harry Kane and Lucas Moura finding the net.

Boss Pochettino made surprise decisions with his team selection, and no decision caused as much intrigue as handing a start to Rose in the Tottenham back four.

The 28-year-old was once a key part of Pochettino’s Spurs side, rampaging up and down the left flank whilst becoming one of the top left backs in the Premier League.

However, a major injury in January 2017 ruled Rose out for eight months, and comments criticising Tottenham’s transfer business didn’t exactly help his position in North London.

Rose lost his place as Tottenham’s first-choice left back to Ben Davies last season, and reports from The Mirror earlier this week suggested that Pochettino was willing to let Rose leave before Friday’s European transfer deadline.

With Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain thought to be keen, many expected Rose to move on, so his inclusion against Manchester United was a huge shock – and he has now addressed the situation today.

Rose has told The Independent that he started from zero this summer, and after having two meetings with Pochettino as well as a phone call, he thinks he will be staying with Spurs beyond Friday’s deadline.

“The manager has spoken to us all a couple of weeks ago and said everybody starts from zero,” said Rose. “We all have to start again trying to impress him and that’s great. We all go again. I’m good. I’m not listening to the speculation about my future. If I’m here past Friday, which I’m expecting to be, which will be great, I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at the end of the season. Me and the manager have had a conversation over the phone, as well as two one-hour meetings over the last couple of weeks.”

“We’re both aware of the situation. (Monday) was massive for me that, even though there is speculation, he still trusts and believes in me to put me into such a massive game, a game where he didn’t need to change anything. For me, over the last four or five years we’ve worked together, that is probably the biggest thing he has done for me. I have to thank him for that. I have to thank because it would have been easy for him not to play me given the speculation that is going around,” he added.
