Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose admits he was worried when Ben Davies joined the club.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has been quoted by the London Evening Standard explaining he was worried when Ben Davies joined the club from Swansea.

Rose has held off Davies, who has been competing with him for the left-back role at White Hart Lane, suggesting that the Welshman’s arrival at the club left him with two choices.

“It was nerve-wracking [when Ben Davies joined] because I didn’t know what it means for me. But once you see past that, you find out what type of character you are,” said Rose.

“The manager met me and told me he wanted me to stay and fight, and that he believed he could make me into one of the League’s best.”

Rose has been a very important player for Tottenham this season, especially when Andros Townsend has been used on the right hand side.

Rose has good natural pace and is a good player to have bombing forward and providing some extra width on his side.

He allows someone like Christian Eriksen or Nacer Chadli to tuck inside and play in more of a central role, with the former definitely more effective in that area.

Davies would definitely have liked to have played more this season and all he can do is continue to go all out to try and produce positive performances when he’s given the chance to do so by Mauricio Pochettino.

Rose is ahead in several areas of key stats between the pair this season, but he has played much more and will start next season as the first choice left-back unless Pochettino decides he wants to bring someone else in to cover that position.
