Brendan Rodgers has been appointed the new manager of Celtic.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 23) that he has been surprised by Brendan Rodgers’s decision to take charge of Celtic.
Rodgers has been appointed the new Celtic manager following the departure of Ronny Deila this month.
The former Swansea City boss had been without a managerial job since October 2015 when he parted company with Merseyside outfit Liverpool.
The Northern Irishman is a very good manager and has proved himself in the Premier League.
Former Liverpool man Murphy has said that he was surprised when he found out that Rodgers had taken the Celtic managerial job.
“I only say that, not out of disrespect for Celtic at all, more because I think Brendan has been on record saying that maybe one day he would like to manage in Spain.
“I know he has learnt the language and he wanted to, ideally, stay in the Premier League, but it’s about opportunity, isn’t it?”
Celtic are one of the biggest club in the world, and Rodgers has made a great decision.
There will be huge pressure on the former Watford manager, though, as the Celtic fans demand success.
Rodgers will have to guide the Hoops back into the group stage of the Champions League and also win the Scottish Premiership title yet again next season.
