Would Arsenal star Mesut Ozil struggle to get into the Tottenham Hotspur starting lineup?

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has suggested in The London Evening Standard that there is no space for Arsenal star Mesut Ozil in the Tottenham Hotspur starting lineup.

The former Tottenham midfielder has suggested that the presence of Dele All and Christian Eriksen means that Ozil would not get a place in the Spurs’ starting lineup.

“Tottenham do not pay their players anywhere near £250,000 per week but even if they did, do they really need Ozil?” Murphy wrote in The London Evening Standard.

“They have Dele Alli, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, and Christian Eriksen, who had 15 assists in the Premier League alone.”

Murphy made the aforementioned comments while discussing whether any of the top clubs in England should have made moves for Arsenal attacking midfielder Ozil – whose current contract with the Gunners runs out at the end of the season – in the summer transfer window.

Of course, no one is suggesting that Tottenham would or should have made a move for the former Real Madrid star, but it is interesting that a player who has won the World Cup would not get to start for Spurs.

There is no doubt that Ozil is a world-class footballer and is one of the best attacking midfielders on the planet, but Spurs’ starting lineup is as good as it gets in the Premier League.
