Danny Murphy has told TalkSPORT that he feels Tottenham need to sack Antonio Conte and that a change at the helm is the only way to get Spurs firing again – and he has suggested the club bring Mauricio Pochettino back to London.

Conte, 53, has watched his Tottenham side win just three of their last 10 games in all competitions. Frustration over Spurs going behind first in all 10 of those outings, and over the style of play, has seen Conte’s tenure placed in doubt.

With his contract up at the end of the season, Spurs have not activated the clause in his contract to extend his deal by a further year. There are doubts over whether Spurs fans even want him to stay – after a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.

On Wednesday night, Spurs travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace – a fixture they lost 3-0 last season. Ex-Spurs midfielder Murphy believes a change is needed in the dugout, and Pochettino would be the ideal replacement.

“I’ve been torn on this subject. I’ve watched Tottenham a lot and there’s some good and some bad and some positives. I know what he’s done in the past. My gut feeling, for Tottenham to move forward, is they’ll need to change.”

When asked if Spurs should reunite with Pochettino, he replied: “I love Poch. It wouldn’t be a bad option, would it? He’s been away, he’s learnt a bit more, worked at a different club, different players,” Murphy said, to TalkSPORT.

It does seem written in the stars. Pochettino has made it clear since his sacking that he has still has love for Spurs. With the Argentine still out of work after being sacked by PSG in the summer, he would surely be tempted with a return.

A move to bring Pochettino back to the club would delight a lot of Spurs players, a manager Harry Kane has described as “fantastic”. More attractive football would be on the table and a return to four at the back. There is every chance.
