Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has admitted to BBC Sport that Liverpool have surprised him this season.

The Reds have been highly impressive in the first 11 games of the season, currently sitting top of the Premier League table.

They have easily been the most entertaining team to watch, topping the league’s goalscoring charts comfortably at this stage.

Their strong start means they are firmly in the title race this season, with the Anfield faithful hopeful that their first Premier League title could be on the way.

In truth, their football has been highly impressive to watch and Murphy has admitted it has taken him by surprise.

“I actually didn’t think at this point they would be where they are, they have exceeded most supporters expectations. Jurgen Klopp deserves credit,” he told BBC Sport.

If Liverpool are to end up as title winners at the end of the campaign, then there is no denying they will have to improve their defensive record moving forward.

They have allowed their opponents to put 14 goals past them in 11 games, the most of any the top five teams so far.

If they remain that open for the remainder of the season it could end up harming their title hopes, as it did under Brendan Rodgers, and improvement is needed to ensure history does not repeat itself.
