Danny Murphy has suggested in The Daily Mail that Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa would be a good replacement for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Guardiola is out of contract at Premier League giants City at the end of the season, and no new deal has been signed yet.
Bielsa’s deal with Leeds is also up at the end of the current campaign, and former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Murphy believes that the Argentine would be a good fit at City.
Murphy wrote in The Daily Mail: “If Guardiola leaves at the end of his contract next summer, would City consider Bielsa when they could go after any manager in the world? He would be a contender.
“His age, 65, and unorthodox approach might be seen as taking a risk but his experience of the Premier League this season would put him on the list.
“Bamford has proven the doubters wrong and the way they coped without Kalvin Phillips in midfield is testimony to how Bielsa’s system is so understood by the whole squad.”
Marcelo Bielsa to Manchester City?
Bielsa is adored and loved by the Leeds fans, and the Argentine seems to be enjoying working at Elland Road.
One suspects that Leeds’s main objective this season is not to get relegated back to the Championship.
If Bielsa is successful in that quest, then the Leeds hierarchy could offer him a new deal, and the Argentine himself might want to continue at the West Yorkshire club and take the team further.
Moreover, having managed Leeds in England, Bielsa may not be willing to take charge of another English club, especially if the Whites retain their Premier League status for the 2021-22 campaign.
