Both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have done well in the Premier League this season. While Tottenham have finished second, Liverpool have ended up fourth.

Spurs, who finished third in the Premier League last season, are guaranteed to play Champions League football during the 2017-18 campaign.

As for Liverpool, the Merseyside outfit will have to go through a qualifying round to feature in the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition next season.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham are likely to make signings in the summer transfer window. After all, it is important for teams to strengthen their squads.

Danny Murphy believes that Liverpool will have an advantage over Tottenham in signing players in the summer.

The BBC pundit, who played for both the clubs, has pointed out that Liverpool pay a better salary to their players than Spurs do.

“Well, the simple answer to our question is that they are not shopping in the same store really because Liverpool pay much bigger than Spurs,” said Murphy on The Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5live last Friday evening (broadcast from 7pm, May 20, 2017) when asked which club between Liverpool and Tottenham can attract the big-hitters that they need to take the next step.

“I do adhere to the fact that some young players want to play Champions League and stuff, but the money is what gets players through the door, and Liverpool pay and Liverpool will pay.”

Another advantage that Liverpool could have in the transfer market is that there is more scope for new players to establish themselves in the starting lineup.

Tottenham have a strong and settled starting lineup, while the Reds could do with a left-back and a striker, and perhaps even a central defender and a goalkeeper.
