Danny Murphy has claimed in The London Evening Standard that Tottenham Hotspur youngster Harry Winks is the best young midfielder in England.

The former Tottenham star, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport and Sky Sports, has also made a comparison between Winks and his Spurs and England international teammate Dele Alli.

“Harry Winks’ performance against Real Madrid confirmed my belief that he is the best young midfielder in the country,” Murphy wrote in The London Evening Standard.

“Some would say that title should go to Dele Alli, but he plays much further forward than Winks these days, almost in line with Harry Kane.”

Getting carried away?

Winks is a very talented and promising young midfielder, and his performance against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League on Tuesday evening was indeed very impressive.

The 21-year-old midfielder looked very mature and composed against the defending European champions and was arguably Spurs’ best outfield player.

The England international, though, is still very well and has made only a handful of appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham.

Winks is still very young and is relatively inexperienced, and it would not be wise to get carried away.

As good as the youngster is, the Englishman is not guaranteed a place in the Spurs’ starting lineup.
