Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign a single player this summer.

Danny Murphy of Fulham looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Fulham and West Bromwich Albion at Craven Cottage on January 4, 2011 in London, England.

Ex-Tottenham star Danny Murphy sat down for an exclusive interview with bwin, and delivered his verdict on his former club’s lack of transfer activity during the summer transfer window, naming two players who they should have signed.

Spurs finished in third position in the Premier League table last season, and many fans and pundits alike were tipping them to go on and make a sustained push for the title this season.

That was before Mauricio Pochettino failed to bring in a single new signing during the off-season, however.

Tottenham are still an incredibly strong unit, though, and have begun their campaign in fine fashion, winning both of their opening two league games.

Murphy, who spent 18 months at White Hart Lane, named Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha as two players who Spurs should have tried to sign this summer, when speaking exclusively to bwin:

“Tottenham should have looked to sign a [Wilfried] Zaha or a [Anthony] Martial, that calibre of player who has got pace and the ability to beat defenders.”

Next up for Tottenham is a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Monday night, and if they beat Jose Mourinho’s men, they will surely silence many of their critics.
