Can Tottenham Hotspur win the Champions League?

Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League campaign got off to a solid start with a draw away to Olympiakos.

It mean providing they win all of their home games, Spurs would reach the 10 points they would need to be more or less assured of qualification, barring a statistical anomaly.

Spurs reached the final last season, knocking out Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Ajax along the way.

Speaking to The Debate (18/9 SkySports 10pm), ex Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy believes Tottenham fans do not really believe the team will go one better this season.

Murphy said: “I still think they (Tottenham) are on a journey, and that’s ok. For Liverpool and Manchester City that’s different, their expectations are to win it, I don’t think Tottenham’s fans expect them to win it.”

Only Tottenham supporters will be able to agree or disagree with Murphy’s assertion.

Right now the team are not quite clicking, but the new signings haven’t really made an impact yet.

Tottenham are in a strong position to qualify for the knockout rounds, and by then, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon could all be firing.

By then, the belief Spurs could go one better might be building.
