Danny Murphy was impressed with former Manchester United star Darren Fletcher’s performance against Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy suggested on the Match of the Day show on BBC One on Saturday night (broadcast from 10:20pm, April 9) that West Bromwich Albion midfielder Darren Fletcher could play for Manchester United right now.

Murphy made the comments following West Brom’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The former England international was impressed with the performance of Fletcher against City, and suggested that the 32-year-old Scotland international could play in United’s midfield right now.

“He (Fletcher) was absolutely tremendous, and I think the whole performance from West Brom was superb in many ways, didn’t deserve to lose the game,” said Murphy on the Match of the Day show on BBC One on Saturday night (broadcast from 10:20pm, April 9).

“He epitomises everything good about them, and when you look at Man United recently, you kinda think he would be in the middle of their midfield at the moment.”

Fletcher has been playing well for West Brom in recent weeks and is one of the best players in the team.

However, just because the Scotsman is doing well for the Baggies at the moment does not necessarily mean that he would walk into United’s midfield.

The 32-year-old was on the books of the Red Devils until February 2015, and it’s not as if he was a ‘great’ player for them.
