Danny Murphy has told TalkSPORT (Wednesday, 12.55PM) that he expects Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to get a good move in the summer – suggesting he would be a good signing for both Tottenham or Newcastle United.
Maguire, who turns 30 in March, has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag has used Raphael Varane in the middle, partnered by either Lisando Martinez or even Luke Shaw. Maguire has become fourth choice.
The United captain, who has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2025 worth £200,000 a week, is being touted with the exit door. It must be said, that Maguire was very good at the World Cup in Qatar for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.
Murphy was asked about Maguire’s future and thinks the defender is likely to leave Old Trafford in the summer. He thinks the 53-time England star would improve both Tottenham and Newcastle – with the latter set to play in Europe.

“He will get a good move this summer. He’d get in Tottenham’s team. He would add serious competition at Newcastle. Newcastle have got this 11, but competition is needed when they compete on four fronts,” Murphy told TalkSPORT.
Murphy: Maguire would be a good signing for Tottenham or Newcastle
Maguire would get into Tottenham’s side over Eric Dier. For England, Maguire is above Dier in the pecking order and Maguire has showed in his time at England level – he is more than capable of playing in a back three. Perfect for Spurs.
Newcastle have Fabian Schar and Sven Botman and he would without doubt, get into the side above Schar. Whether or not United are open to his exit remains to be seen, given they will make a loss on the £80m fee they paid to sign him.
