Danny Murphy comments on what he said about Liverpool last week.

Danny Murphy has admitted to The Daily Mail that he still believes former club Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season.

The BBC pundit made headlines on Match of the Day last Saturday for saying ‘they’re going to do it’ after seeing Liverpool edge out Crystal Palace in a 4-3 thriller at Anfield.

Murphy, who spent seven years on the Reds’ books until 2004, had been guarded over his old side’s chances of winning a first top-flight English title since 1990.

And although the 41-year-old regrets what he blurted out, he still believes.

He told The Daily Mail: “As a Liverpool fan, I attracted attention last weekend when the excitement of their 4-3 victory against Crystal Palace made me say out loud ‘I believe’ on Match of the Day when talking about their prospects of a first league championship since 1990.

“Maybe I regret it a bit — no true supporter wants to tempt fate — but I haven’t altered my view.”

It would be a fantastic achievement by Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, but there’s a long way to go yet – 15 games to be exact.

The Merseyside outfit sit top of the Premier League table, but only four points clear of Manchester City. It’s certainly a two-horse race, with Spurs nine points back in third, but the closer Liverpool get to the finish line, the more jittery they could well become.

They face Leicester City on Wednesday, having had a lengthy break due to being out of the FA Cup.
