Danny Murphy has praised Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Pundit Danny Murphy has told BBC’s Match of the Day that he is a big fan of Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson – and feels the ‘the one that got away’ for Tottenham.
Swansea gave their chances of Premier League survival a real boost when they hammered fellow strugglers Sunderland 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, with Sigurdsson opening the scoring from the penalty spot before Fernando Llorente scored twice to seal the win.

Tonight, Bob Bradley’s men travel to The Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion in another big game, and the American boss will be calling upon Sigurdsson to be the key man once again.
The Iceland international, 27, has been Swansea’s key man since re-joining the club from Tottenham in 2014, and has grabbed six goals and five assists in all competitions this season to once again show that he’s one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
Many have wondered just why Tottenham sold Sigurdsson in 2014, and whilst they acquired Michel Vorm and Ben Davies in that deal, some believe that Spurs are missing a player like Sigurdsson in the final third.

arlier this month, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino – who was in charge when Sigurdsson was sold to Swansea – told The Mirror that the playmaker was perfect for Spurs, and it was a shame that he left the club more than two years ago.
Now, pundit Danny Murphy, also formerly of Tottenham, has suggested that Sigurdsson is ‘the one that got away’ for Spurs after reading Pochettino’s comments about the player, hinting that it may have been a mistake to sell him.
Murphy admitted to BBC’s Match of the Day that he is a big fan of Sigurdsson, as he’s technically very good, makes good decisions, serves as Swansea’s leader, creates most of their chances and takes great set pieces, as he heaped praise on a man Tottenham may just regret selling.
“I’m a big fan of his,” said Murphy. “He’s technically very good, and I read Pochettino saying that he would have been a perfect player for him Tottenham…the one that got away! His decision making is very good, and every time Swansea play well, he plays well – it always goes through him.”
“He’s their talisman, their leader, they always look for him. He plays in those little pockets, but I prefer him in that more central role, and his set plays are brilliant, always on the money. He creates nearly all their chances, he’s their man,” he added.
