Sunderland are currently only one point away from safety, after winning against Watford.
Danny Murphy has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 17th December, that he felt Adnan Januzaj was excellent for Sunderland against Watford.
Januzaj has had a mixed time at the Stadium of Light so far, following his loan move from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old has spent a considerable amount of time on the substitutes’ bench, but he was selected to start in a central role against Watford.
The Belgian international put in an excellent display, as Sunderland picked up a 1-0 victory over the Hornets.
And Murphy said: “He played centrally behind Defoe, and he was very, very good. Usually he drifts in and out of games, but he was more involved centrally.
“He was the difference for Sunderland in their attacking play. He opened Watford up time and time again. It was probably his best game. He was really good.”
Sunderland scored their goal against Watford through Patrick Van Aanholt, but it was Januzaj who had the greatest creative influence during the match.
The youngster could have an important role to play at the Stadium of Light, as David Moyes’ side aim to avoid the drop.
Sunderland’s win over Watford has lifted them up to 18th place in the Premier League table, and to within touching distance of safety.
The Black Cats are only one point away from away from 17th placed Crystal Palace, with their next fixture coming against Manchester United on Boxing Day.
